Upper School (7-12) Grading Guidelines

Grading/Assessment Guidelines for Grades 7-12 During COVID-19 Closure

General 7-12 Guidelines

  • Students will be graded utilizing a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory rating for Quarter 4.

  • Teachers will continue to grade assignments using their normal grading practices as outlined in their specific course syllabus.

  • At the end of the Quarter 4 students will receive a percentage grade based on the activities, assignments, and assessments that were graded.

  • If a student receives a passing grade (60% and above) for Quarter 4, they will receive a Satisfactory (S) on their report card.  If a student receives a failing grade (below 60%) for Quarter 4, they will receive Unsatisfactory (U) on their report card.

  • The percentage grade for Quarter 4 will only factor into a student's overall final grade for the course (F1) if the percentage improves their overall grade.

  • If the final grade for Quarter 4 does not improve a student’s overall course grade then it will be omitted.  The student’s final grade will be based on the previous marking periods and midterm exams if applicable.

Middle School Specific (7-8)

  • Engagement and work completion in Middle School electives (Music, PE, Art, Technology, Drama, Dance), including STEM / Environmental Science, is encouraged but optional. If a student completes the assigned course work for these elective courses and their Quarter 4 grade improves their overall final grade, it will be utilized in the student’s final grade calculation.  If the work is incomplete or the Quarter 4 grade negatively impacts the overall grade, the student will receive an Exempt (E) on their report card for Quarter 4 and it will not be factored into a student's final grade. Their final grade will then be based solely on their Q3 grade.

  • Middle school Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies coursework is still required.

  • If students receive Special Education services or interventions they are still required to attend those sessions.
