PSAT/NMSQT Information

On Wednesday October 19th, 2016, Avon Grove Charter School will administer the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Students who plan to take the test will receive a complete sample test for practice along with the answer key and scoring instructions.  When scores are reported in December (pending the turn around time for CollegeBoard), each student will receive a report of Student Answers including the correct answers as well as the answers that the student gave. To allow students to refer to the original questions, AGCS will return test booklets with scores.

The PSAT/NMSQT is co-sponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation. It is administered annually to more than one million students and measures verbal and mathematical abilities that are important in college work.

The PSAT gives students the opportunity to find out what the College Board’s Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is like, and helps them in planning for college. The 2016 PSAT will incorporate any changes that have taken place on the new 2016 SAT. You will be allowed to use a calculator for the math section of the exam. Students who choose to participate in the CollegeBoard Student Search Service have an opportunity to hear from colleges that they might not otherwise learn about.  The PSAT/NMSQT is also the qualifying test for JUNIOR students who wish to participate in the nationwide scholarships competitions administered by National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

We encourage ALL Sophomores and Juniors to take the exam.  Freshmen can take the exam as well, only if seats are available.  The cost of the exam is $25.  Please click on the link below to download the registration form and return the bottom portion of the form with a check or cash for $25 made payable to AGCS. Students who do not attend AGCS may email Adrienne Grube at agrube@agcharter.org to reserve a seat. Since the test administration is being offered during the school day, please be aware that your student will be missing a large portion of his or her academic day and will need to check in with all teachers to make them aware and collect any work that will be missed prior to the day of testing. The form and payment are due by October 12, 2016. If this form and payment is not received by this date, your student will be unable to test.
